Genocide in Rwanda

I believe the cause of such wide spread violence, and in this case, genocide, is mainly caused by who is the more dominant side of the governments. Obviously the cause of the genocide in Rwanda was due to the death of President Habyarimana, but on a broad perspective its usually two or more leaders who are in dispute on who is the more powerful leader. Leaders will attack in some way or form to give hints to other regions to imply they shouldn't be messed with. Which in fact causes the other leader to reply in the same manner. Another reason could be tangible thing of great value, like oil, cotton, etc. Countries that have great resources like the Iraq/Iran area, have great demand from other countries for it. It is possible that other surrounding areas would want to steal the product and benefit the same way they do. Deals are sometimes out of the question and the only way is to aggressively pursue the oil. And in that case the area that owns the oil will defend their supply and will cause wide spread violence.
